The Stryker RV is based on the Stryker ICV and features the long-range advanced scout surveillance system (LRAS3) pod, which includes a second-generation forward-looking infrared viewer, GPS interferometer, laser rangefinder, and a daylight television camera. The LRAS3 is mounted on the power-assisted commander's cupola next to the gun mount, which is usually fitted with the .50cal MG instead of the 40mm grenade launcher. The sensor mast is to be lengthened to 10m (33') to increase its range to 10km (6.2mi). The 5 passengers include a 4-man reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition (RSTA) squad and an intelligence augmentee. The M1127 also carries the counterintelligence/human intelligence automated tool set (CHATS), which is an information management system that allows secret-level information to be handled and transmitted. Twelve 4-tube M66 66mm smoke grenade launchers are mounted on the vehicle.
The M1127 was not modified with the double-V hull configuration, but Stryker A1 upgrades were instituted beginning in 2018. These included a 450hp engine; 60,000lb (27,000kg) suspension; 910-amp alternator; and an in-vehicle network.
