Light Tank M1.

The extreme rear position of the turret of the M1 light tank was necessary due the the forward position of the engine. The driver was seated right beneath the turret, and had to look out over the tank's glacis. The unsprung link type suspension is hidden by the skirting plates. Light Tank M1 belonging to the US Army Ordnance Museum.

The engine access panels and air intake grilles are visible on the front of this tank. The driver's hatch is located beneath the front of the turret, and he was provided with a slit for forward vision. A telescopic sight was mounted on the left of the combination gun mount, and the coaxial machine gun's aperture is visible to the tank's right side. A counterweight is mounted in front of the gun shield.
