The Marder II (Sd.Kfz.131) used the hull of the Pz.Kpfw.II Ausf.F light tank as the basis for a self-propelled antitank gun. The turret was removed, and the top of the Pak 40's field carriage was mounted behind a gun shield which was open at the top and rear. Seventy-five Pz.Kpfw.II Ausf.c/A/B/C and Ausf.F hulls were converted to Marder II starting in July 1943.
